Happy Sunday Friends!

How was your week? I had a busy week, but it was my favorite kind! I spent one evening Christmas shopping with my sister, another evening prepping for two of my Let’s Create events, another hosting the events, and another prepping and cooking a few meals for the week. Our weekend was spent visiting Santa and just relaxing around our home.

The project I am sharing today quickly became my a new favorite of mine. I love upcycled and repurposing projects. If you have read my ABOUT ME page then you know that taking something old and making it new again is a favorite hobby of mine. This project is a perfect example of just that!

Items needed:

A Wooden Shutter
Rustoleum Linen White Chalked Paint
Rustoleum Charcoal Chalked Paint
Folk Art Home Decor Antiquing Wax
A piece of cut lathe wood
Two Black Upholstery Tacks
Wine Cork
Orange Paint
Orange Glitter
Black Buttons
Burlap Fabric
Evergreen Winter Embellishment
E6000 Glue

Along with the items listed in the supply list, you will also need paint brushes, a measuring tape, cloth rags and sand paper.

To prep for this project you will need to cut the wood lathe piece to 12 inches, cut a wine cork in half and cut a piece of burlap fabric about 4 feet long and 4 inches wide.

The size shutter I used is 26 inches high and 8.5 inches wide.

 Start by measuring 17 inches up from the bottom. You will paint the bottom section with white paint.
You will paint the piece of wood lathe and the top section of the shutter with black paint.

After letting your paint dry, sand the edges of the shutter to give it a more rustic and decorative finish. Then glue your piece of wood lathe to the shutter at the black and white paint line.

Using a cloth rag apply a thin layer of Antiquing Wax to the entire shutter.

The next step is painting your cork with orange paint. I simply added the glitter to the cork after painting it. The paint held the glitter to the cork, but you could also let your cork dry after painting it and then apply a layer of Mod Podge Glue before adding the glitter.

It is now time to add the decorative items.

Glue a winter embellishment to the hat.
Push two black upholstery tacks through the middle of the shutter.
Glue on the the glitter nose.
Tie the burlap fabric into a scarf.
Glue on two black buttons.

It is a fun little decorative snowman that you can add anywhere in your home!
