How to make candles using vintage containers

Happy Monday Friends!

A while back I shared  10 Ideas for Enjoying a Long Winter Season Indoors. One of my favorite ideas for enjoying Winter is by lighting candles throughout the house. This Summer I collected  different vintage containers for making  candles of my own.

Items needed:

Soy Candle Wax Flakes

Natural Candle Wicks

Lavender Essential OilEditSweet Orange Essential OilEdit & Citronella Essential Oil

Clothespins

Vintage Containers:

I used a variety of different containers: tea cups, stoneware mugs, pottery, & glass urns.
You could really use any container that you love!

Optional item used:

 Dried Lavender Flowers

I used a double broiler method on the stove for melting my wax flakes. To do this you put the wax flakes in a small coffee can and then place the can into a pan of water. Bring the water to a boil until the wax flakes are melted. After taking the melted wax off the burner, I then added in my essential oil. I used lavender, sweet orange, and citronella essential oils to make three different types of candles. I also added dried lavender flowers to the lavender candles.

The next step is to secure the candle wicks into each container. This part was somewhat of a trial by error process before I got the hang of it.

I dipped the bottom of each wick into the melted wax, then I used a clothespin and a  Mason Jar Drink Lid to hold it in place while the wax continued to dry securing the wick to the bottom of the container.  Once it was secured by the dry wax, I then poured another  small amount of wax in the container and let it dry to stabilize the wick even more.

The final step to creating the candle is to then filled each container with the remaining wax.

I love how they turned out! This Winter I have use the lavender and orange candles almost daily. They would also make a cute gift for any candle lover!
