Happy Friday Friends!
I am looking forward to a weekend away visiting my girlfriend. We have a weekend of thrifting, antiquing, and reconnecting planned…my favorite kind of plans!
Last weekend I came across this copper pitcher at a thrift store. It was 25% off day at the store so I paid only $5 for it.
The item was really tarnished, but the brass copper combo really stood out to me and I hoped I could give it a little love to bring back the great patina it once had. Usually I love and don’t mind time-worn copper, but this little pitcher was so tarnished it was hard to even see that it was copper.
My Mom was with me while thrifting and thought she had read somewhere that ketchup cleans copper. Knowing that I always have a stock of ketchup on hand at home I decided to give it a try. I put rubbed on a layer of ketchup and let the pitcher sit for about an hour.
After letting it sit for the hour I began wiping of the layer of ketchup. I was instantly amazed at the results, but found some areas still had areas of dark tarnish. This prompted me to add another layer of ketchup to those specific areas.
On the second time around I let the ketchup sit on the pitcher for about 30 mins. I was rather impatient and wanted to see the end results! The remaining dark spots came right off upon wiping the ketchup off.
I couldn’t be happier with the results! The pitcher is now so pretty and perfect Fall!

You really scored with the copper pitcher. I’ve tried ketchup to clean brass and it worked pretty well. Thank you for sharing at Snickerdoodle.

Never knew that about ketchup! To think of all the hours I’ve spent scrubbing brass and copper things to make them shiny! 😮
