20-things-i-look-for-at-thrift-storesHappy Wednesday Friends!

A few days ago I shared how to make candles using vintage containers. Even though I spend a lot of time at home in the Winter one thing I still love to get out and do on a regular basis is visit my favorite thrift stores.  When searching for items I am usually looking for items to buy for decorating my own home,  for supplying my Etsy shop, and for prepping for a local vintage sale. Throughout the entire year whether I a shopping at a thrift store, yard sale, or flea market I tend to gravitate to some of the same things.

Here is a list of what I look for when shopping second hand:

Simple Table For Two

Happy Sunday Friends!

Just over a week ago I shared a few recent thifting finds . One of my those finds was an old iron light fixture that had a pretty cream patina.

img_20161023_104913365

I really knew what I wanted to do with it when I found it. I knew that I would love it as a candle centerpiece for our small round dining room table.

img_20161112_123410787

I love setting a table and making it pretty! I don’t quite get to do it often enough or as much as I would like to, but finding the fixture inspired me to create a simple tablescape for two.

Vintage Plate Wall Combinations

Happy Tuesday Friends!

A few weeks ago I shared my vintage plate wall. It is one of my favorite corners of our kitchen/dining room.

I have always been drawn to collecting old plates.

At one time I collected red transfer-ware.I loved that collection, but about 7 years ago we bought a house that had blue carpet and the collection just didn’t go with that house. I began decorating our old home with more grays and blues.

Wanting to get rid of that collection at a fair price, In 2011 I opened an Etsy shop to sell the items. I was able to get a much better price than what I would have been able to sell them for at my yearly garage sale.

Throughout the years I have continue to love vintage plates. This summer I collected a number of plates to again sell in my Etsy Shop.

Here are some combinations I put together for inspiration.

Recent Thrifting Finds

Happy Saturday Friends!

What a busy week! I am spending some time today doing a little Christmas shopping and it got me thinking that I should share some of recent thrifting finds with you.

I love a good day of thrifting! I actually prefer it over any other type of shopping except maybe shopping for books. I love finding unique one-of-a-kind items for our home. Another hobby of mine is also finding items to pass along to others. This Summer I attended a couple vintage fleas as a vendor and I loved it! I loved meeting people face to face who have a love of decorating their homes with flea and thrifted finds. It was so nice to hear compliments from buyers on the items I had curated for the shows. Michigan winters don’t allow for year round outdoor markets so I decided I would relaunch my  Etsy shop and keep it open through the winter months. Lately I have been busy gathering items to add to the shop.

Here are a few of my favorite finds…

I fell in love with this large paint-by-number barn painting. It is one of the largest I have found. Vintage paint-by-number paintings always catch my eye and I usually nab them if the price is right.

Another items I always, always check at thrift stores are vintage Reader’s Digest books. I love finding a hidden treasure once you peel back the old paper book cover. These pretty blue ones will end up on a shelf of mine. Actually most of these items will stay with me and not get added to the shop. I fell in love with them all.

img_20161023_104637037

I loved this set of pretty floral metal trays when I came across them. I was not walking away from them! I may keep one or two to hang on a wall in my kitchen and then place the rest in my shop. The blue pottery canister has such a pretty texture to it too.

img_20161023_104718497

This old light fixture is also staying with me. I instantly saw it as a table centerpiece with pillar candles. I most likely will be using it on our table for the holiday season. I envision it with some pretty greens in the middle.

img_20161023_104913365

When I came across this wooden box I loved how interesting the detail was on it. I love finding unique items and this is very unique. The front lid opens to give you space for storage. Because of how interesting it is I will be keeping this for our house too. Are you starting to see a pattern?

img_20161023_104954737

These pretty blue books will be saved for an upcoming sale I host locally. I just love a pretty book stack and I found that the book stacks that I curated for each of the outdoor markets I attended went really fast each time.

img_20161023_110359695

This turquoise canister and glass set will most likely be listed in the Etsy shop.

I love anything turquoise and it is hard to find this color glassware in my area. Of course they had to come home with me! I am hoping someone loves them as much as I do.

Vintage Plate Wall

header

Happy Wednesday Friends!

I am here today to share a favorite little corner of my dining room.

I love to thrift shop and buy second hand! Most all of the items in our home other than the larger items like our sofas, love seats and beds all have been purchased second hand. I rarely buy any decorative items brand new or retail.

img_20160423_184526137_hdr

This favorite corner of mine was a labor of love while I collected vintage plates over a period of time. I began gathering some of my favorite plate walls on {PINTEREST} as inspiration. I then kept my eye out for plates that had vivid colors as our walls are a light grey. I wanted the plates to standout and be seen. I also wanted it to feel eclectic and collected.img_20160429_162225134

I use {THESE} plate hangers to hang my plates.

I love how it came together!

Vintage Waterscape Gallery Wall

Happy Wednesday!

Vintage Waterscape Gallery Wall

I love to find vintage goods at thrift stores, flea markets, and yard sales. It is one of my most favorite past times! I am often on the look out for interesting items to fill my Etsy shop.

Vintage Waterscape Gallery Wall

I accumulated these three painting at different times over the Summer & Fall. My intention was to add them to my shop, but I kept setting them aside holding off on posting them.

Vintage Waterscape Gallery Wall

I was working on some photos last week for a shop update and again was having a hard time including them in my shop items. I decided I would put them together on the wall to see if I liked them.

Vintage Waterscape Gallery Wall

I have to say that I love them together!
I love the colors and eclectic vintage mix.

They are keepers!
